Happy Friday! It was amazing to be part of the mid-year assembly this morning to celebrate all the learning we've been doing together as a school. It struck me as I watched the students receiving certificates, singing and laughing together that we have such an wonderfully diverse school community and are so lucky to be part of such a rich tapestry of people.

I hope you have a super holiday with your children and that we're blessed with some fine weather!

I'd like to share a great article by Laura Grace Weldon, it's an easy read and offers lots of practical ideas and inspiration for having fun with your children and supporting their literacy along the way.

Next term we'll be holding some parent information sessions in the Learning Hub as we'll be introducing our new home learning links books. We really hope that these books will form a useful and supportive resource for you and your children. We'll let  you know dates and times soon.

Happy Holidays!

This is Israel and his baby bean plant. We've been busy watching our plants germinate and grow in the Learning Hub. We're learning about the different parts of our plants and how they work together to help our beans survive. The students have been fascinated watching through the clear plastic cups as the roots of their plants develop. We worked out that when a seed grows, the roots start to grow first to collect food and water so that the stem and leaves can develop.
Our bulbs are sprouting and one hyacinth has begun to flower, it smells amazing! We're also waiting for our mustard sprouts to get big enough to make sandwiches with.

Our interest table in the Hub at the moment is all about growing plants. We are reading and writing about all sorts of plants, what they need to grow, how they grow, why we need them and we're even having a go at growing a few different types of plants ourselves. Pop in and have a look at what we've been up to!

I think this image captures the potential that is within all our children. I have loved every minute of my time this year with the children here at Silverdale School and have seen these qualities in all of them demonstrated in different ways. Have a wonderful holiday with your precious children, families and friends, see you in 2016! Anna.

Well done Jacob! Jacob has worked so hard to achieve his literacy goals over the last 17 weeks and has made fantastic progress. He has been a delight to work with and is so enthusiastic about his learning. Congratulations Jacob, you are a star!
